The Old Economy Village made furniture for their own use, with wooden clamps. The cabinet shop has over a dozen on display.
Initially, they made the clamps for their own use; later, they used commercially made clamps.
The firm started in 1892, in Lancaster PA, and was gone by 1899.
In 1892 William H. Denney was listed as the Denney Hand Screw and Clamp Co., at 644 West Chestnut St.
In 1899 he was listed as a salesman. The name disappears after 1899.
The Old Economy Village was established in 1824, and dissolved in 1905.
The upcoming book, Harmony in Wood, written by Philip Zimmerman, describes the furniture that the Harmony Society made for their own use. It was made possible by grants from the Richard C. von Hess Foundation, the Heinz Endowments, the Julia Lea Hillman-Simonds Foundation, and the Gookin Family Foundation.
The visitor center has an exhibit of furniture in 2009; it is being made possible, in part, by a grant from the Pennsylvania Humanities Council.
