new naming conventions

pnnnnnnn.tif are source files downloaded from USPTO site, usually 2320 x 3408, B&W

pnnnnnnn.gif are B&W, with borders cropped to 1700 x 3000 pixels

hnnnnnnn.gif = Pnnnnnnn.gif, but 16 gray shades, half sized 850 x 1500

snnnnnnn.gif = Pnnnnnnn.gif, but 16 gray shades, one-sixth sized to 284 x 500

old naming conventions

mmm_pyy.gif are thumbnails of patent in year yy, used by maker mmm, usually 250 x 425

tnnnnnnn.gif are thumbnails, used when no maker is known
